During his first-ever shows in Liverpool, the birthplace of the Beatles, Bruce Springsteen was joined by Paul McCartney on Saturday night (June 7) at Anfield stadium. Springsteen took a moment during the set to playfully introduce McCartney to his hometown crowd. “Thank you Liverpool. You’re lucky tonight, we have a young man, a local young man from Liverpool, he’s gonna play with us tonight,” Springsteen announced from the stage. “I think he has a lot of talent, and I believe he’s gonna be going places. So let’s bring out Paul McCartney.” Sir Paul then led the group through a rousing performance of the Fab Four classic, “Can’t Buy Me Love” – which marked Springsteen and the E Street Band’s first time ever performing that song live – and “Kansas City,” which was featured on Beatles for Sale. This recent collaboration is one of several instances where the two rock icons have shared the stage, including memorable performances in London, New York, New Jersey, and Glastonbury.
